About

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is an overarching term that describes chronic autoimmune inflammatory disorders of the GI tract (small and large intestine). The two most common diseases are:

Crohn’s Disease is an inflammation of the digestive tract lining that often spreads deep into the wall of the intestine and causes strictures and fistulas.

Ulcerative Colitis is an inflammation of the colonic mucosa and presents with ulcers and pseudopolyps of the mucosal lining of the large intestine and rectum.

Symptoms of both Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis typically include severe diarrhea, abdominal pain, fatigue, and weight loss. If left untreated, IBD can be debilitating and can lead to life-threatening complications.

Treatment

At SCLC, we take an aggressive, multidisciplinary treatment of inflammatory bowel disease to promote healing of the intestines and well-being.

Treatment begins with advanced diagnosis using noninvasive imaging techniques and endoscopy.

Once we understand your individual diagnosis, we can develop a treatment plan that may include medicinal and/or surgical therapies.

Once we understand your individual diagnosis and extent of the disease we develop a treatment plan that includes medication, diet, lifestyle modifications, and, in rare cases, surgical therapies.
